Over half of the El Burro estate sits inside the Volcan Baru National Park, a protected ecological reserve and sanctuary for exotic wildlife. Grown at extreme elevations up to 1,800 meters in rich, young volcanic soil, these coffee trees thrive under the canopy of a virgin native rainforest. This pristine environment creates a truly unparalleled growing condition where nature dictates a much slower, more intentional pace. Cold nights, dense fog, and heavy mist during the dry season slow down nature's clock, meaning these trees take up to five and a half years to begin producing fruit, which is nearly twice as long as standard coffee plants. Furthermore, these low temperatures extend the ripening time of the coffee cherries by a full month. This prolonged development allows the sugars to concentrate producing complex sugars. All of these extraordinary geographic and climatic factors culminate in an incredibly distinguished and elegant cup.
