Description
The globally popular characteristics of the SL34 variety from Kenya, with its juicy body, notes of blackcurrant, and exotic floral aromas, are reflected in this single-origin coffee. It is an exceptionally clear and crisp coffee with an intense sweetness reminiscent of pink candies and a long, lingering tartufo finish. This is the fresh harvest of the lot that placed fourth at the Best of Panama (BOP) in 2022, which we were able to auction for you at that time. This year, the harvest is larger because the plants have developed excellently. We are pleased to offer you this lot exclusively worldwide. The special SL34 variety, known for its outstanding flavor characteristics, originally comes from Kenya, where it is rarely available as a single-origin due to difficult growing conditions. On our partner farm Finca Lerida in Panama, specifically on the "Floral Estate," this variety was first cultivated under ideal climatic conditions in 2017 and is thriving here. 2022 was the first year the plants produced enough cherries to participate in the Best of Panama auction and immediately won fourth place. The cherries were traditionally washed after harvest and then dried for about 16 days on drying beds in the shade. The "Flora Estate" is one of the five farms that make up Finca Lerida. It is located in the Volcancito region in Boquete, and anyone who has the opportunity to visit this farm feels the magic of this place in the middle of the Panamanian rainforest. Finca Lerida is a female-led farm, and their attention to detail is visible everywhere. Maria Amuroso, the eldest of five siblings, grew up in Boquete and, as a little girl, planted coffee plants with her grandfather and helped him with processing. She always dreamed of her own farm, and when Finca Lerida was up for sale in 2009, she breathed new life into this special place with one of the best locations for coffee cultivation. It was her idea in 2017 to plant the SL34 variety from Kenya, which is thriving on the high slopes.
