Description
Terroir: Ruhango Gisanga coffee is grown in the Mbuye sector of Ruhango district in Rwanda’s Southern Province. This area lies at an altitude of 1,650–1,850 metres above sea level in the Congo-Nile Divide mountain range. It is one of the finest parts of the country’s central highlands, with annual rainfall of 1,100–1,300 mm and an average annual temperature of 18–20 °C, making it one of the most suitable areas for growing Rwanda’s main crops. The soils here are predominantly volcanic (Inceptisols) without significant accumulation of clay, iron oxides, aluminium or organic matter. Farm: Gisanga The Gisanga washing station serves 850 local farmers who are members of the Koakambu cooperative. They work in partnership with Tropic Coffee Ltd – a family-run business founded in 2015, which operates in three regions of Rwanda.
