Description
Farm: Argopuro Walida In terms of environmental sustainability, their fertilisation methods are based on natural principles and they even produce their own compost. In addition, they plant coffee trees and endemic plants in a way that helps protect biodiversity, whilst strengthening the landscape’s root system, preventing soil erosion and helping to retain water in the natural environment. Alami also strives to generate sustainable economic benefits for farmers and staff. Farmers are able to set their own prices for coffee cherries and are paid in cash upon delivery to Hendra. Farmer: Bang Hendra Behind this lot is the talented processor Bang Hendra, along with his family and a team known as Gayo Avatara. Hendra has a deep respect for nature, and his passion for coffee is renowned throughout Indonesia. He is highly respected on both the domestic and international coffee scenes. He reaches the finals of the Cup of Excellence competition every year and has been dedicated to speciality coffee for 12 years. Producer: Alami Coffee Diversity is nature’s greatest strength. The ‘Alami family of producers and farmers’ recognises this and works tirelessly to maintain the harmonious balance of a healthy ecosystem. Through these principles and practices, they are improving the condition of natural forests by planting endemic crops with added value, such as cocoa, bananas, macadamia nuts, avocados, spices, pine and mahogany. Alami’s aim is to create conditions for the harmonious coexistence of soil, plants and animals. When nature is allowed to take care of itself, interactions arise between these processes, leading to constantly evolving ecosystems. Alami’s approach to environmental sustainability is based on five principles, which are applied in the day-to-day work of its producers and farmers: Principles of organic farming Principles of biodynamic farming Restoration and protection of biodiversity Principles of agroforestry Nutrient exchange between soil and plants The meaning of the word ‘Alami’ in the Indonesian language The world we live in is full of natural beauty and marvellous things to admire. ‘Alami’ in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) means ‘Nature’. We all come from it, we are all part of it, and we dedicate our work to it. We believe that everything in nature calls upon us to continually become who we truly are. If we sow seeds with devotion, honesty and all our hearts, they will return to us in abundance.
