Mulugeta Muntasha grew up in the village of Bursa in Arbegona, Ethiopia, where coffee cultivation has only recently taken root. After learning the coffee trade while transporting cherries for smallholder farmers, he returned home and established the Dawencho drying station in 2021. Just one year later, his coffee placed second in Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence. This release comes from Mulugeta’s washing station in Arbegona and represents the work of 600 smallholder farmers throughout the area. Made entirely from the JARC 74158 variety, the coffee is handpicked at peak ripeness, carefully sorted and washed, then slowly dried on raised beds. The result is a vibrant, fruit-forward expression of Sidama with a lush, layered sweetness. Juicy mango leads the way, followed by the rich, jammy character of black cherry and a soft, ripe banana note that brings a creamy roundness to the cup. Bright and lively when hot, it becomes increasingly sweet and tropical as it cools, with a clean finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
