Description
Flavour notes: Elderflower, Tangerine, Silky Producers: 450 smallholder member farmers Origin: Gedeb, Yirgacheffe – Ethiopia Altitude: 1900–2100 masl Cultivars: Ethiopian landrace Process: 48-72h wet fermentation, washed and dried on raised beds Chelbesa is located in the Gedeb District which is one of the finest coffee producing areas in Ethiopia. It is known for its dense semi forest vegetation with lots of natural and planted shade trees. The area is a great example of agro-ecology perfectly suitable for coffee. The station receives coffee cherries from around 450 farmers in the area. In 2019 the station was renovated and the fermentation tanks replaced to ceramic ones that both bring clarity to the coffee but also speed up the fermentation process by retaining the heat inside the tank. The farmers bring their coffee cherries to the washing station before being sorted and processed. The ones living the furthest away can walk up to 2 hours to deliver their coffees.
