Burundi Ninga Hills

Description

Ninga Washing Station sits at 1,900 meters above sea level alongside the Nkokoma River in Burundi's Butanyerera province. Long Miles Coffee established the station after realizing that farmers in the area were traveling far and wide to find a washing station with fair scales and fair prices. Hundreds of smallholder farmers deliver their Red Bourbon cherries to Ninga each harvest season, tending small plots alongside beans, bananas, maize, and cassava between 1,900 and 2,100 meters. Long Miles works closely with the community through farmer training, sustainable land management, and women's empowerment initiatives. This coffee is part of Long Miles' Hills Quality program, a carefully constructed lot built from the best the hill produces each season, monitored throughout harvest and sorted by size, density, and color before export.
