Long Miles ‘Funny Bourbon’ Natural Process Education Lot 2025

For years, the Long Miles team in Burundi has managed small research areas alongside their washing stations that are used as organic demonstration plots modeling best practices for local coffee farmers. Last year, Passenger was the first roaster to have the opportunity to share a truly unique coffee produced on these plots, and we’re delighted for the opportunity to share it again this year. Referred to as “Funny Bourbon” by the local community, this coffee is not a bourbon at all but rather the famous SL28 variety. For now, the team at Long Miles is producing such small quantities of this variety that the lots are being processed as naturals. We're hopeful that as this experiment grows and yields improve in the years ahead, so too will the opportunities to refine processing and drying, further elevating quality in the cup. We're excited to present this coffee as an Education Lot this year, offering a chance to share the continued progress of this ambitious project. Both aromatically and in the cup, we're finding an abundance of dried berries, juicy pomelo, and a robust finish reminiscent of red tea and cedar.
