Tasting notes: Strawberry, Red Grapes, Cranberry, Dried Fig, Fruit Florals Rui Ruiru Factory sits on the fertile slopes of Mathira in Nyeri County and works with local smallholder farmers. After the Mathira North Cooperative ceased operations in 2014, the factory fell into disrepair, but community representatives led by village headman Charles Maina partnered with Crowd Farm Africa, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Nyeri County Government in 2020 to restore production. The revived factory combines Kenya’s celebrated SL28 and SL34 varieties with Ruiru 11, and uses natural anaerobic processing to build sweetness and fruit expression. This AA lot is vibrant and juicy, with strawberry, red grape, cranberry, dried fig, and floral fruit notes. Its layered sweetness shows a modern processing approach while preserving the bright character associated with high-elevation Nyeri coffees.
