Description
Nyeri | SL28, SL34 | 1825 masl | Washed Bright and juicy, Kamoini peaberry centers on navel orange and golden raisin, with honey rounding out the finish. Kamoini Factory sits at 1,825 meters in Nyeri, on the banks of the Ichamama River just downstream from the Karima forest. It's one of 18 wet mills operating under the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, founded in the 1950s. In Kenya, small wet mills like Kamoini are called factories, and each takes in cherry from local farmers who hand sort at home to cull anything unripe or overripe before it reaches the pulper. Peaberries themselves are a natural cherry mutation: instead of the usual two flat beans, the cherry produces a single round one. Kenyan factories separate them out as PB grade, and peaberry lots have long been prized for concentrated flavor and even roasting.
