Colombia Oporapa Pink Bourbon

Pitalito | Pink Bourbon | 1800 masl | Washed Bright lime and soft honeydew give this Pink Bourbon its crisp lift, with dried apricot, sugarcane, and a warm baking spice finish filling out the cup. This lot brings together coffee from two farms in Oporapa, just outside Pitalito in Huila. The majority comes from Manuel Antonio Peña, whose 12 hectare farm La Cumbra sits in the village of El Carmen at just over 1800 meters, with roughly 7 hectares in coffee. Manuel has planted a range of varieties over the years, from familiar Caturra and Tabi to less common selections like this Pink Bourbon. The name comes from the pinkish, sometimes orange, cast of the ripe cherry. Early genetic testing has tied the variety to Ethiopian landraces, though a connection to Bourbon is still likely; the line between Bourbon, Typica, and Ethiopian heirlooms is famously thin. The remaining 10 percent of the lot comes from a nearby farm owned by Hector Diaz, also a member of El Bombo, the cooperative that represents both growers along with hundreds of other smallholders across southern Colombia. El Bombo runs a seed program that distributes varieties like Pink Bourbon to its members.
