In 2014, as declining coffee prices threatened the future of his farm, he chose not to give up. Instead, he committed himself to producing specialty coffee. With only rudimentary equipment, he processed his first specialty lot, marking the beginning of a relentless pursuit of quality. Since then, Don Senel Specialty Coffee has continuously invested in processing infrastructure, high-altitude farmland, and the cultivation of exceptional coffee varieties. In 2022, Senel selected outstanding Geisha mother trees from Finca El Cola Roja and developed his own "Geisha Súper Madre" lineage, which went on to achieve remarkable results in the Honey & Experimental categories of the Cup of Excellence. In 2026, his coffees were once again recognized by the Cup of Excellence, qualifying in two separate categories. His Honey & Natural lot placed 10th, while his Experimental lot earned 9th place. For Senel and his family, coffee is far more than a livelihood. It is a legacy rooted in the land they cultivate—a family tradition they are building and passing on from one generation to the next.
