With his wife Messi, he started Alo Coffee in his home village of Alo Bensa, and quickly rose to prominence after winning Ethiopia’s first Cup of Excellence in 2021 - demonstrating that the Sidama region of Ethiopia is capable of producing amazing coffees. Today, Tamiru and the Alo Coffee team works with 800 farmers across Ethiopia. They are dedicated to developing innovative cultivation and processing techniques that demonstrate how exceptional Ethiopian coffees can be. WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE We're thrilled to welcome Alo back this harvest season with a great lineup starting with this clean natural Landrace 74158. We've been excited by the quality coming through, and this lot is a great way to start exploring the new season. The coffee has the exceptional cleanliness and complexity we've come to associate with Alo's coffees. The first sip brings a bright blueberry character alongside very sweet mandarin orange, giving the cup a combination of deep fruit sweetness and fresh citrus. In the background, delicate red rose florals add another layer, while the finish takes on a gentle tannic quality reminiscent of white tea. As the coffee cools, the citrus and florals gradually settle back into an incredibly sweet blueberry character that lingers through the cup.
