Colombia - Paola & Carlos Trujillo - Finca Patio Bonito - Chiroso - Washed Process

This is the first coffee we've bought from Paola and Carlos Trujillo. Francis first encountered their work whilst in Melbourne for MICE. When he visited the Path brew bar, he had a natural Geisha from Finca Patio Bonito. That cup put the farm firmly on his radar. Since then, we've kept an eye out for coffees from the Trujillo family. When several Patio Bonito lots arrived through Café Imports, we were eager to taste them. This excellent washed Chiroso was the lot that stood out to us the most to us. Carlos Arturo Trujillo has grown coffee in Caldono, Cauca, for almost 50 years. His daughter Paola returned to the family farm in 2022 after working as a cupper and buyer in Nariño and Huila. Her experience now sits alongside Carlos' decades on the land as the family develops its approach to quality, processing and lot separation. Patio Bonito grows 13 varieties across nine hectares of coffee, giving them plenty of scope to understand how each performs on the farm. This is a traceable, single-variety microlot, separated to show the character of Chiroso. The variety has Ethiopian landrace ancestry, although its precise origin remains unresolved; its elongated seeds once led people to regard it as a Caturra mutation.
