Kamoko AB - Nyeri, Kenya SL28&34 - Washed Process

The Kamoko wet mill collects cherries from farmers at a relatively high 1850m, giving this coffee structure and high flavor intensity. The Kamoko Mill has been producing coffees since 1956 with cherry from 250 farmers. This factory is part of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative and is relatively unknown compared to larger, more productive mills.  I chatted with my friends Peter and Ringa at Kamavindi Coffee about our goals when sourcing coffees. We aligned strongly on shedding light on producers, mills and regions that deserve more attention. This was one of the coffees the 3 coffee samples they sent me to begin our relationship, all of which I ended up contracting. It is a pleasure and a truly full circle moment to be able to work directly with Kamavindi Coffee; early in my career as a barista I was exposed to their work, story and ethos and I was completely inspired by them. I am even more humbled and inspired that our philosphies align so closely and I cannot wait to continue our work together. We taste: Chamomile, marigolds, and honeysuckle greet the nose off the ground aroma, bloom and initial brew. The initial sips show an incredibly coating and dense mouthfeel with layers upon layers of flavor. Watermelon, honeydew, mango and passionfruit all present when hot. As it cools, meyer lemon and pomegranate present themselves. As the cup cools, expect a black tea like tannic structure supporting all the juicy fruit characteristics.
