He a had humble beginning more than three decades ago, starting on a plot of land with 4000 Caturra trees. We are lucky to have snatched his very limited production of the rare Papayo varietal. Pastor remembers those early days fondly: less diseases, higher prices, healthier soils... Like many other farmers, it became harder and harder to make a living after the International Coffee Agreement ended. He is now a member of the Monkaaba group and was a founding member of the Los Naranjos Association in 2000, an organization that brought 90 smallholder producer together to receive more for their coffee. Despite being a lifelong farmer, he only shipped his first micro lot in 2018. He now focuses on higher quality lots to get the international recognition he deserves. THE MONKAABA PRODUCER GROUP Pastor is now a member of the Monkaaba group we often buy from. It's a smallholder coffee grower empowerment initiative whose goal is to assist other growers in the area to not only find a better market for their coffee, one that pays a solid price, but also to invest in the knowledge and skill of producers in a way that ensures their future success while making them more autonomous. We release many regular coffee from the group throughout the year and they are always delicious!
