Description
A clean, sweet, Colombian decaf from the Santa Maria community in Huila. This is the kind of decaf we like to have around: easy to brew, comfortable to drink, and still very much tasting like good coffee. This lot comes from the work of 25 smallholder producers in Santa Maria. The coffees are grown at 1700-2100m and built from Caturra, Pink Bourbon, Castillo, and Colombia varieties. The decaffeination is done using the sugarcane process, also known as Ethyl Acetate or EA decaf. In simple terms, caffeine is removed using a naturally derived compound from fermented sugarcane. The green coffee is steamed, treated with the EA solution, steamed again, then dried and polished. It is a process we like because it can keep the cup clean and flavourful, without the flat or papery feeling decaf can sometimes have. We've sourced this coffee through our friends at The Coffee Quest who have done the work in Colombia with these small holders to form this coffee to begin with. Brew it as an easy daily filter, or use it for espresso when you want something sweet and gentle without the caffeine.
