Crown Jewel is a special coffee produced by the Rugori (Women's Crown) Cooperative of Gasharu Coffee in the Macuba Sector, Nyamasheke District, Western Province, Rwanda. This gorgeous coffee features the rare Red Bourbon varietal, paired with an Anaerobic Washed process, resulting in a cup that is very light on the palate: tea-like, sweet, floral, and slightly funky. This special coffee is the producers’ way of honoring women’s contributions to coffee production at Gasharu Coffee. “Rugori” is a Rwandan tradition of crowning a woman after childbirth as a symbol of respect and recognition. This new lineup is no different—roasted to perfection to be enjoyed as espresso or filter.  ABOUT GASHARU COFFEE The story of Gasharu Coffee traces back to 1973, when a determined 14‑year‑old boy named Celestin Rumenerangabo began his journey. Raised by a single mother who had been displaced after the 1959 uprising — an event in which groups of Hutus launched attacks against the Tutsis — Celestin grew up facing hardship and loss. After completing only three years of primary school, the family’s economic struggles pushed him to leave his home in Nyamasheke, in Rwanda’s southwest. With courage and resilience, he undertook a three‑day walk to Kigali, the capital city. In Kigali, Celestin worked as a house helper for a kind family in Kicukiro for three years. Although the family wished to adopt him, in 1976 he chose a different path. He gathered all of his savings and returned to his village to support his mother, who was living alone. This act of sacrifice and devotion became the foundation of what would later grow into Gasharu Coffee — a legacy built on resilience, family, and community.
